What Actually happened?
When it first started the festival was dedicated to the greek god Zeus. Which he also had a statue dedicated to him and it was for people that would go in front of it and athletes would swear oaths on slices of wild boar's flesh. There is also the flame and it was introduced in 1928 in the torch relay. Then when it came to the games the torch had started in Greece and worked its way over to the place it was being held at, which then lead to the whole Olympics Games day. A very important thing that everyone needed to know was that the Olympics was were for people to promote friendship from the different nations, through mental and physical excellence. When it came to the sports there were winners of each event which got a part of an olive branch.
HOW DID IT START?
In the year 776 BC in Greece had festivals where the Olympic games started. These were only hosted on hot and nice days so that everyone can enjoy playing in it. Those games were just a one sport festival until the year 1896. That was the year where the first modern games started and had 9 sports. One of them wasn't very pleasant, which was when the losing team of the game had to be killed and they would play in the blood. Also the captain of the losing team would have their head be then next "ball" in the intense games.
This is the Entrance to Olympia which where the Olympics were held.
