Good and Bad
The Olympics are definitely the most exciting thing for people to watch every 4 years. But before doing all this, the stadium has to be built which takes a lot of effort. It also costs a lot of money and nobody wants to knock down their houses, which leads to fights with the construction workers and police officers. There is also a good side when this happens because you get money back from the government and they let you stay in cottages that were built just for them. Then it goes back to the bad side because even though you are 50 yards away from the stadium they still don't give you a ticket. Another not so good thing about it is, sadly 800 families had to move to public housing and a quarter of the people in the most recent host Rio lived in favelas.
This is one of the houses that got knocked down in Rio.
In the olympics there is also many symbols to represent all the different things. Including the flags, rings, and many more. For the rings they represent the 5 participating continents which are Africa, Asia, America, Europe, and Australia. All these symbol's popularity began during the guide to the 1936 olympics. When you go to the olympics there is a flag that was created by Pierre de Coubertin, which is in the ceremony where it is held by the mayor and past on to the next host, and then it keeps going on and on. The sports which are the whole reason why people go are crazy. When it first started it only had nine sports, then it went all the way up to twenty-eight sports in the whole games. Some of the first sports were, tug-of-war, tennis, and gymnastics.
